Pillowcase Apron

Ta-da!
The Pillowcase apron was born…

My girlfriend started working for a local fabric (Yippee) store and the employees wear apron’s but they have to be all black.  (Boring)!  So she asked me if I would make her a sewing apron but add my flare to it.  So I searched through all my fabric and nothing was just plain black.  I spotted this pillowcase that I had picked up at a yard sale for free. ( I got some other great stuff to.)  You know how at the end of a yard sale they are giving stuff away so they don’t have to haul it off to the dump.  Well it was my lucky day.

You need:

1 Pillowcase standard size
2 yards of wide Ribbon
Sewing machine and supplies
scissors

On the backside of the pillowcase where the opening for your pillow is I measured up 10 inches from the bottom and cut it off.  This will be your pocket.  Place your 10 inch pocket piece wrong side to right side and upside down of main apron piece and stitch across.
Fold up the pocket piece on top of the main apron.  Press flat with iron and pin in place.
Wanted some flare so added a 1 in. ribbon ruffle to the top half of the pocket piece.  Being careful not to stitch the pocket closed.
As you can see the ruffle was stitched down the center of the ribbon.

I new I wanted four pockets across the front of the apron so I measured out and marked with dressmaker chalk and pinned in place.  Pinned some ribbon to the top edge of the apron for the tie.  Stitch down the right side, bottom, and left side of the pocket.  I then come back and stitch up my pocket lines.

This apron will only take you about an hour to complete.
Hope you like it and good luck on  your own pillowcase apron.

  2. SO cute!!! I made an apron out of an old pillowcase last year…but it's not as cute…and I never wear it:( Maybe because I omitted ruffles? Ruffles and pockets make everything better;)
