Polk~a~dot pin board (DIY)

As you know I’ve been de~cluttering and organizing several rooms in my house as of the new year.  My daughter’s room is scary and always messy.  So an organizing here we come.  We got rid of extra toys and just unnecessary stuff in her room for starters.  That helped out a lot.  But she needed a place to display all her pretty little art work and a fabric covered pin board is just the perfect for her room.   I found this great polk~a~dot fabric in my stash that would work well with the rooms decor.

I’ll show you how I made this one…

You will need :

  • Large frame
  • foam core board
  • fabric
  • hot glue gun
  • scissors
  • paint
  • brush
  • and push pins

You will want to cut your foam core board to fit nice and snug inside the frame first.  Lay your fabric out wrong side facing you and place your foam core board on top and cut around leaving about 1 to 2 inches extra around the edge for glueing.  Start hot glueing your fabric to the foam board pulling in at the center of each side first.  Then go back and glue down the corners making sure you pull tight as you glue.  It’s as if you are wrapping a present.

Paint your frame if you like.  I used just some craft paint and a foam brush.  Let it dry overnight and then it was ready for you to glue the foam core board into it.

I pressed the covered foam board into the frame and hot glued around the edges on the back side of the frame to hold in place.

Added some flower push pins we made to the board along with a few awards and art work to be displayed for all to see.  I made a framed jewelry holder last year that was similar to this project you may want to check out too.

If you have any questions on making one let me know.

  5. This is cute! I was actually going to make a clipboard frame but now I’m split between this and the clipboard idea. Maybe I will have to make both for variety!
