What was once a woman’s blazer (my blazer that I’ve had for more than 5 years and have never wore it.) is now my new bag for Spring.
Here are the steps I took to refashion this blazer into a bag…
- find a blazer
- lay the blazer out flat and cut straight across it just under the arms.
- Cut a contrasting fabric into 2~ 26 in. long by 3 in. wide pieces for the straps and cut another 2 pieces for the bottom of the bag 22 in. long by 4 in. wide. You will want to sew a straight stitch up the center of your blazer where the jacket front overlaps and comes together to keep it closed.
- Sew the contrasting bottom fabric pieces together along the short edge. Then place it onto the bottom edge of your blazer and sew around to form contrasting bottom edge. Right sides together. Sew up your bottom edge. Cut a 2 x 2 square out of both corners of the contrasting fabric to create your bag bottom. Pinch the square together forming a triangle and stitch closed.
- I made my bag straps out of the two 26 in long pieces of fabric. I applied fusible craft interfacing to the straps before folding them and stitching them closed. Attach to the top edge of the bag.
- I made a liner for the inside of my bag and added interfacing to it for sturdiness. A pocket was made and attached.
- Sew your lining together with the right sides facing each other. Place it into the bag and stitch the lining and blazer together.
- Add a magnetic closure to the lining and topstitch around the edge of the bag to give it a nice finished edge. Stitch your lining closed.
- Ta~da! A new bag for Spring…

It’s a lot of fun to re~vamp something that I don’t like anymore and was going to get rid of into something I can use again. Thanks for your sweet comment.
