I cut 3 inch strips of fabric to use for my trim around the edge of the tree skirt.  Fold in half and run a basting stitch.  Then I came back and ruffled up my fabric by sewing up the edge and pushing the fabric into the needle for a messy type of ruffle.

For the faux fur I had to piece it together on the bias to make one long strip of fabric.  Once I had my faux fur sewn together I stitched the ruffled fabric to the edge.

I folded my main fabric for the tree skirt in half and cut a semi-circle out along the fold. Then cut another semi-circle for the back of my tree skirt.  My circle ended up being 45 x 45.  Fold the semi-circle in half again and cut a small circle out of the folded end.  Unfold the fabric once and cut up one of the edges to the small circle.  This will make the backside of the skirt for wrapping around the tree.  Pin the trim into place and stitch it onto the skirt.  Then lay out your backside fabric onto the tree skirt with right sides together, pin the two fabrics together making sure your trim is out-of-the-way.  Also be sure to leave an opening for turning the tree skirt right side out.  Once turned right side out press and close the opening with iron on hem tape.

A new tree skirt for my tree.
